Fiscardo is built on cypress-covered hillsides around hairpin bays and small coves. The village suffered less damage in the 1953 earthquake. Amongst some of the amazing sights to see in Fiscardo are the 19th century church, a stone sarcophagus and a depression in the rock measuring 2.3m deep, which the locals call “the throne of Queen Fiscardo”. From here to high can be seen Daskalio islet, considered to be the Astris of Homer, where – so the myth goes – Penelope’s suitors waited for Telemachus to return. The port of ancient Panormou is first mentioned in Homer, and according to the report by Riemann and Parts, it was today’s Fiscardo.
The harbour is usually full of yachts and quayside tavernas and cafés where you can sit and relax and enjoy the unique atmosphere, brushing shoulders with the world famous jet set.
